Jeff Lebo is done....

After weeks of rumors about Jeff Lebos future at AU, word finally came down Friday that Auburn will be making a change in basketball coaches for the 2010 season. Auburn finished with a very mediocre record this season at 15-17. A final record probably too tough to swallow for an Auburn team that had 5 seniors. Lebo was 96-93 overall through 6 seasons at Auburn and had a disappointing record of 35-61 in conference play. Four of Lebo's six seasons at AU, he lost in the first round of the SEC tournament. Lebo also never took one of his teams to the NCAA tournament during his 6 year tenure, which is an infamous feat only shared by one other SEC coach since the NCAA expanded the tournament field to 64 teams in 1985. His record during those 6 seasons are as follows....
  • 2004 - 14-17 overall, 4-12 in the SEC
  • 2005 - 12-16 overall, 4-12 in the SEC
  • 2006 - 17-15 overall, 7-9 in the SEC
  • 2007 - 14-16 overall, 4-12 in the SEC
  • 2008 - 24-12 overall, 10-6 in the SEC (NIT Invite)
  • 2009 - 15-17 overall, 6-10 in the SEC
Auburn will have to pay Lebo a $1.5 million buyout of his contract that had 3 years left on it. As to who will replace Lebo, the names that have began to surface as of Friday afternoon, are former Tiger Chuck Person, UAB Head Coach Mike Davis, Missouri Head Coach Mike Anderson, and UTEP Head Coach Tony Barbee.
