AU picks up it's 2nd 2011 commitment!

Just two days after getting their 1st commitment for the 2011 football recruiting class and just three days after the official close on the 2010 class, Auburn picked up another commitment. This one coming from a big offensive lineman, in Spencer Region.

Region will be ranked as one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2011 class and he is certainly a mammoth human being. At 6'6", 330 lbs Region towers over high-school opponents and obviously has great SEC size. He also prides himself on playing very physical at the line of scrimmage and using his size and aggressiveness to be a one man road grader. Spencer admittedly wanted to play his college ball at Alabama and they were his childhood favorite. However the high pressure recruiting tactics of Nick Saban and the Alabama staff backfired with Region and he decided to play for Gene Chizik and the Auburn Tigers instead. Region, from Cullman, AL chose Auburn over offers from AL, FSU, Ole Miss and others.

  1. Tons of theories on why he chose Auburn over Alabama today. I think I've heard at least 5 different ones, all point to Alabama fans being completely butt-hurt over the decision.

  2. Jonesy, the story as I know it is he grew up a bammer fan. Wanted to go there and was a bammer lock. Saban put the high pressure sales pitch on him and told him he wanted him to commit but if he took any other visits they wouldn't hold his scholly. It really made him mad and he said thanks but no thanks and called Chizik and committed.
